Infant circumcision has never been a true medical matter but has alwaysbeen a human rights issue and a sexual issue. An old wrong and injustice inthe lives of males, for the English speaking world of the 19th century thisshameful, senseless, nature-insulting, violent, inherently risky, extremelypainful, damaging and destructive operation was started by doctors around1870 due to great religious and social hysteria over the normal, natural andhealthy activity of masturbation in boys and men. Once this genitalmutilation of children was set in motion it was justified with changing"reasons" of health/hygiene/disease. These "reasons" have been discreditedand disproved but, since normal male genitals were nearly eradicated in theUS, they linger as myths and fears in the minds of both the lay and in manydoctors who, if male, were victims themselves of the mutilation and who werenot given in medical school information about the normal intact penis andabout the lifelong purposes and benefits of foreskin, a highly specialized,nerve-rich cover, protector and natural lubricator of the glans (head) of thenormal natural penis. Acting in ways similar to the eyelid and as the onlymovable part of the penis, foreskin keeps the glans sensitive and is the mosterogenous one-third of the skin on the normal penis. [About 36% or more ofthe skin on the adult's penis is missing due to his circumcision in infancy.This loss causes physical/mechanical sexual dysfunction.] The foreskin isessential for the full measure, the full degree of male sexual pleasure andfor normal sexual functioning. Whenever normal, natural intact and healthygenitals of either sex are surgically altered (surgically mutilated) onecannot expect normal, natural sexual functioning nor normal emotions. Thedifferences between normal intact and partial, man-made/man-redesignedgenitals are profound. The sexual health of American men has been greatlyundermined by this tragic and contraindicated surgery inflicted on theirprimary sexual organ when they were babies.
The destruction and amputation of a baby's normal healthy foreskin cancause alarming consequences and results, from puberty onward, in a partialsexual experience, and in notable forms of harm: sexual dysfunction, sexualcrippling, along with medical, physical, emotional, psychological andself-esteem forms of harm. With 85% of the world's males happily intact andwith world medical authorities rejecting and offended by American argumentsfor infant circumcision, American doctors fail to honor the guiding principleof Western medicine, "First, do no harm" and therefore they have broughtabout this national disgrace of male genital mutilation. Infant circumcisionviolates the universal human right of anyone to have normal intact genitalia.That baby is unable to understand what is being done to him, and to speak forand defend himself. Much unexpressed regret, anger, resentment, humiliation,and frustration are part of the lives of men who have awareness about thiswrong done to them in infancy. These feelings of violation and unhappinessare growing as more and more men learn the painful facts and truth aboutcircumcision. No one- not even a helpless baby- wants a normal, natural,healthy and beneficial body part cut off.
